About the Studio

Our Mission

Our studio has, as its sole purpose, the objective of: producing a well-rounded, highly skilled, quality dance education to all the students we proudly serve.

Entering into our 38th season, our aim focuses on promoting dance performances rather than competitions. Although we may compete from time to time for adjudication purpose, we believe the benefits of education and the value of performance presentations for entertainment and experience far outweighs the competitive worth.

Sharing Dance With Your Child
For more than 3 decades our school has been a leader in dance education. We believe that our success comes as a result of providing solid training and quality service, along with the belief in the strength of our organization.

Our training is extensive, challenging, entertaining, rewarding and fun. Traditional dance is taught but sometimes it is best introduced in non-traditional ways. Our classes are designed with emphasis on creative expression, physical awareness and proper dance technique.

Each class blends a variety of exercises to enhance the following skills:
  • creativity
  • coordination
  • musicality
  • rhythm
  • technique

Our classes will help to :
  • develop coordination, grace and physical fitness
  • stimulate the creative side to develop self-expression
  • build self-esteem and confidence
  • develop a life long appreciation for music, dance and the arts
And most importantly, our classes promote fun!

As we proudly continue into our 38th season of dance education, Legein Dance Academy strives to inspire students with the love of dance and an appreciation for the arts. Our proficiency for training skilled dancers has led to a strong and valued reputation in our field.

Our current facility located at 39 Sandy Bottom Rd in Coventry houses 3,000 square feet of space with 2 studio rooms equipped with hardwood floors. Our teaching faculty are all certified by test to teach Pre-school to adults in all levels of dance training. We offer an extensive program in: Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Musical Theater Dance and Dance History. We also offer classes in Drama and Voice for ages 7 and up.

Terrie Legein comes from a dancing family, beginning her training at the age of 3. The love for the art of dance began with her Mother, Aunt and siblings and as it was passed on to her it grew into the passion she now shares today with her own children, grandchildren and students. With great support from her husband, she opened her first studio in the basement of their home in 1978. It quickly grew and became Legein Dance Academy of Performing Arts with its base moving from Coventry to Hope and back to Coventry again with a satellite location added in Hope Valley in 1999. Now after 35+ years of teaching, she shares the artistic creative responsibilities with her daughter Allison Simoes, Assistant Director.

Although many of our students have moved on to professional training in the world of dance, the prime focus still remains on the majority of students who enroll to have fun in learning dance. It is our philosophy to encourage our students to feel, think and act respectfully to their peers, the adults in their lives, and themselves. Our program relies on a positive atmosphere for our faculty, dancers and parents and it promotes a positive learning experience for all involved. The spirit of teamwork and the lesson of dedication are a big part of our school’s educational process.

We all share a common goal: to assure that every child receives the best possible training both physically and mentally. Mutual respect between our faculty, children and parents provide the students with the ultimate care and education in dance.
